TEACHING PLAN
For The
Study of Eschatology

Eschatology Foundation
This booklet presents an explanation of the Plan that
William W. Walter developed for the study of the Science of Eschatology. There are five
successive courses in this scientific study. This progressive series of courses provides a
step by step, orderly unfoldment of a practical, provable understanding of the Science of
Life.
GENERAL INFORMATION
In the first course in Eschatology, the student is taught
the basic principles of mental causation. He is also shown how to rightly utilize these,
in his own mind and thought. Therefore, if the new student reasons carefully about what he
is taught, he can apply it correctly, and prove to himself that the right use of his own
thought does resolve problems and also brings more good into his own daily life. The
sincere student can gain much benefit even in this beginning course.
Everything that is taught in this first study is more fully developed and explained in
greater depth in each succeeding higher course in Mr. Walter's Plan. In this step by step
way the student gains ever-increasing benefit from his own continued well-reasoned
application, and steadily unfolds more understanding of Life, of himself, and of his
fellowman.
Mr. Walter's Plan has been successful from the time he first presented this scientific
study, about 1916. Since the early 1920's there has been a steadily increasing number of
qualified teachers of Eschatology. Teachers are now available throughout the United
States, and in England, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, and Mexico. When interest
developed in Mexico, the texts for the courses were translated into Spanish as the
majority of those students could only study in that language.
Information about the teachings presented in Eschatology is given in a booklet called
"Eschatology - What Is It?", which was written in the 1920's by Mr. Walter, to
answer the increasing number of inquiries about this study, at that time. Since the
1960's, so many people have been inquiring about Eschatology, and asking for additional
information after reading Mr. Walter's basic booklet, that a "Supplement" to it
was prepared in the 1970's. Another booklet which more specifically cites the benefits a
student can receive from this teaching is "Why Study Eschatology?", which is
also available to anyone who requests it. If the reader has not reviewed these three
booklets, it is suggested that they be requested, and carefully read.
More general information is offered in another booklet entitled "Additional
Background Information and Brief Summaries of the Writings of William W. Walter".
That booklet is given to all new students of Eschatology; it is also available upon
request to anyone who may be interested in this Science.
All of these booklets are useful to every student of Eschatology, and may help any
individual who has inquired about this teaching to determine if this is the kind of study
he has been seeking. They explain how Mr. Walter found that Life itself is a Science, and
also the way he achieved his actual understanding of this. They also indicate his reasons
for his method of teaching, and give insight into the value of gaining understanding
through the step by step Plan he developed.
In addition, the prospective or new student of Eschatology can see the attitude he must
bring to this study, and also the effort and sustained interest that is necessary to gain
lasting benefit from it. The booklet that includes summaries of each of Mr. Walter's
writings, gives his purpose and the main ideas in each of these works. The student can see
the particular help each of these writings would be to him, throughout his active study of
the successive courses in Mr. Walter's Plan. Those who are seeking greater insight into
what Eschatology teaches can see if any of these writings would serve that purpose.
The following indented paragraphs are from the booklet that Mr. Walter issued in the late
1920's called "Our Plan". The study and teaching of Eschatology has been carried
on under the same "co-operative plan" Mr. Walter had established even prior to
his circulation of his "Our Plan" booklet. It should be noted that in those
days, his teachings were better known as "The Walter Method of the Christ
Science", though he had already conveyed to his teachers and students that
"Eschatology" is the accurate name for his teachings. As this was not yet well
known, he still designated his teachings as the "Walter Method", in his
"Our Plan" booklet.
Mr. Walter introduces "Our Plan", as follows:
EXPLANATORY
Humanity in the present age is fast awakening to the fact that thinking, has much to do
with health and success, though the How and Why is yet a mystery to the
masses.
In the Science of Metaphysics, as in all other new unfoldments, no sooner has the honest
pioneer through years of painstaking endeavor and irrefutable proofs, won his way to
fundamental truth, then the "pretender" appears upon the scene.
The pretender is of that calibre of mentality that judges all others from his own
standpoint and, therefore, looks upon every new thing or system as something devised by
some one to humbug the people. Having this uppermost in mind, he casually or critically
looks over every new thing. Not with the idea of unfolding more good, but with the query
of how through pretense and imitation he can best turn the new discovery to his own
benefit. The genuine understanders and benefactors of humanity never work for show or in
any ostentatious way. They are not in the work to attract shallow thinkers, to relieve
them of their money. Their appeal is always to the reason and common sense of the people.
...
The honest, practical pioneer knows that no one can get something for nothing. He knows
the sure way to success is through unceasing individual effort. He will not promise his
hearers or readers a seat in heaven for the price of a dollar donation or the purchase of
a two dollar book. ...
I have in many instances inspired my students with the necessity of working long and hard
in their endeavor to heal and teach. I have seen their honest efforts bring great results
and consequent good reputation and financial returns. ...
For the past five years, I have been urged by thousands who have been benefited by my
writings and teaching to open a school to teach my method of Mind healing. ... My main
reason for not starting a school or an organized movement is this. Organization of any
kind brings with it the error of the master and slave idea and this hinders free and
unlimited individual unfoldment. You cannot have a leader without a follower. You cannot
make by-laws to restrict the dishonest without these by-laws acting as a restriction to
the honest in their own self unfoldment. In a purely metaphysical work, there can be no
law but the law of God, namely, honesty, justice, and goodness. ... A true metaphysician
is never a leader, but always a true guide. A leader commands. A guide suggests or points
the way, leaving each individual the freedom of will to follow the way pointed out or some
other.
I have labored long and given much thought to this subject and have always held in mind
the rights of my students when considering my own. At length I have come to the full
understanding that the right way is not through blind religious belief, sect, cult, ism,
church or church by-laws, but that only through honest guidance and a just plan of
co-operation can universal good be brought quickly to the people.
The word "plan" according to the Standard dictionary means, "methodical
arrangement of the successive steps necessary to the attainment of some object." This
booklet is to acquaint the world with "Our Plan". Thousands, for many years,
have co-operated under "Our Plan" with increasing success in health, wealth and
happiness. There is nothing to join. No donations are asked. The sole requirement of Life
is to understand the Science and apply it in daily living.
To gain a practical understanding of the Science of Life, one must go about it in the same
way that one would to gain a practical understanding of music or mathematics.
The first need is books that deal plainly and correctly with the selected subject. Second:
persistent self-application to the study of the books if one would be self-taught. Third;
through direct application, prove by right results obtained that one has grasped the
understanding of the Science.
The better and quicker way is to engage a competent teacher to explain and direct the
efforts and thus guide the student to the shortest way to understanding. You would not
expect a professor of music to furnish you books and teaching free of charge, then why
expect it of those who are engaged in the more arduous work of teaching the Science of
Life? ...
The "Walter Method," like Mrs. Eddy's original teaching, is built purely on the
principle "Work out your own salvation" through right thinking, right action and
right feeling. Nothing less than this is the Walter Method and the teacher's work is to
teach honestly what right thinking, action and feeling are so that the student or patient
may know how to practice them and receive the blessing that follows such right living. ...
My students have been for years cooperating with me under an unwritten plan and, at
length, we have developed a plan in which the pretender, or hypocrite, can not long
operate undetected, therefore we are putting it into print and shall at once put this plan
into fuller operation. Our Plan has no affiliation with any church or cult and is entirely
non-sectarian. None are ever commanded or asked to leave any church. We do not preach the
tearing down of one church for the upbuilding of another church; nor do we teach that what
is evil for you is good for me. Experience shows that it is not wisdom to take a lame
man's crutch from him before he has been healed and taught to stand and walk without his
crutch. He will discard it, himself, when he finds it a hindrance instead of a help.
To change crutches may inspire new false hope and thus defer the day of actual healing.
...
Every adult seeker of Truth who takes up the study of metaphysics (the science of mental
life) brings with him a great load of useless baggage in the guise of previous false
teaching and erring beliefs regarding God and man, Cause and effect. These so distort his
reason and mental vision that he views all things from a purely material or erroneous
viewpoint. To such a degree is this true, that, no matter how simply and plainly actual
Truth is presented to him, he mistakenly views it from his own distorted viewpoint and
consequently takes a wrong sense from all that he reads or is told on the subject. That is
why Jesus said to the multitude, "Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye
not?"
The Plain Talk Preparatory Course has been devised as a question and answer course.
Through asking vital questions, the teacher can discern from the answers given just what
sense or meaning the student has taken from his study of the Plain Talk series and,
therefore, is in a position to correct the student's erroneous concept or viewpoint. ...
Hundreds who desire rapid advancement in the understanding of the Christ Science and are
willing to pay for the instruction have found wonderful unfoldment in taking a course of
study from our competent teachers from "The Sickle", the textbook of Mental
Harmony. ...
The Primary Course as such is complete. It furnishes all the information and understanding
necessary to heal through right thinking acting and doing, all manner of so-called
physical discord and all the understanding that is necessary to a happy, healthy,
successful life upon this plane of existence.
The Teachers Course in Eschatology is complete and furnishes the fundamentals pertaining
to the Science of Being, ...
(It is noted here, that during this early period, before "The Sharp Sickle" was
published, or the present "Teachers Graduate Course" had been presented, Mr.
Walter, himself, gave Class instruction to students who desired to be allowed the
privilege of teaching the then established courses of study. Such students would have
completed all of the courses, mentioned in the paragraphs quoted
above, and also have qualified for the "Teachers Class" by passing an
examination that proved their readiness for that Class.)
Continuing on with additional paragraphs from the "Our Plan" booklet:
I have always stood upon the results obtained through the Walter Method when correctly
applied and propose to continue to stand upon such results and nothing else. It was Jesus
who said, "By their fruits ye shall know them." This method being a common sense
application of right thinking and doing, with no appeal to mysticism or blind religious
fervor, it must live or die according to practical results obtained. Therefore, I do not
propose to have the Method faked by the unwise and the ill results palmed off as the
results of the Walter Method.
It is with the idea in mind of cleaning house of the "make believes" for the
protection of those in the field who desire this Method, and not some other under this
name, that this co-operative plan of healing has been devised and put into print.
The shrewdness (not wisdom) of the unprincipled must be recognized and provided against,
therefore, a registered trade mark will appear on my printed writings. Permission in
writing to use the trade mark will be granted to such teachers as have passed a special
examination and desire to co-operate honestly with us. As a further safe guard, the
permission to use my trade mark will be granted for one year at a time only. I do not
propose to have anyone make use of this trade mark to deceive the public. Those who, for
any reason, decide to follow or teach any other method are free to do so, but in justice
to all they should no longer claim to be teaching or practicing the Walter Method and,
therefore, they will be denied further use of the trade mark. ( * ) ...
We have no organization and no by-laws to hamper or obstruct the freedom of any co-laborer
in this vineyard of mental liberation. Honesty, justice, and goodness are the only laws of
the mental realm. All must live up to them to the best of their ability if they wish to
succeed in the Christ way.
There is no ban, stigma, nor penalty placed upon any student who desires to read, study,
or follow some other system. All are given full freedom of conscience. In return, the
student should be fair to me and not object if I decide not to enlighten him by further
teaching or reviews, and withhold from him the privilege of using the Eschatology trade
mark ( * ) when he leaves my teaching for some other.
We have no room for mere believers in our movement. Either the beginner, or believer, must
bestir himself and become an actual understander or he will automatically find himself
chasing rainbows under the guise of a new cult, or ism. Once actual understanding comes to
an individual he then knows what Paul meant to convey when he said that the spirit within
bore witness with his spirit. Thereafter the gates of hell could not prevail to move the
individual to abandon the Walter Method, which is nothing more nor less than a plain and
practical explanation and application of the method of mental healing given the present
age by Mary Baker Eddy, and the further unfoldment of actual life as taught in the science
of last things, Eschatology. It is the Way, the Truth, the Life, system taught by Jesus,
namely, the destruction and rectification of all wrong thinking (the fallacious cause of
all human ills) through Right thinking (Reason - the Saviour). Then through right
doing (active Love) unfold the conscious understanding of the facts of Being,
(truth) and live in accordance thereto. This will be found to be the only "Way"
to the only real heaven (permanent harmony) obtainable.
The above paragraphs from Mr. Walter's original booklet explaining his "co-operative
plan" for the teaching of Eschatology certainly convey his dedication to assuring
that the fully proved understanding of Life contained in his writings is taught
accurately, and scientifically, in the true spirit of love of all mankind.
The texts used for the courses of study in Mr. Walter's Plan are listed below.
*(Appears on the title page of this booklet, and on each teacher's "Permit to
Teach".)
FURTHER EXPLANATION OF THE TEACHING PLAN
The successive courses of study and texts in the Teaching Plan of Eschatology are:
The Beginner's Course - The 12 booklets of the "Plain Talk Series" are
used as the text for this course; or the first 20 booklets of the "Common Sense
Series" may be used, if this would better serve some particular student(s). The
decision of which booklets are to be used is made by the teacher of those students. The
"Plain Talk Series" is generally utilized because in only 12 booklets the entire
basis for this scientific study and its practical application is set up. The first 20
"Common Sense Series" booklets are usually used for supplemental reading to this
first course, and all of them are included by reference or specific teaching throughout
the study of the more advanced courses.
The Sickle Course - The textbook is "The Sickle".
The Primary Course - The text for this is "The Primary Notes", which are
also called "The Mental Harmony Notes".
The Sharp Sickle Course - The textbook is "The Sharp Sickle".
(Each of these courses is fully reviewed immediately after its first study. To
satisfactorily complete the above courses takes a minimum of four years, but usually the
teachers give these courses five to eight years of consistent teaching.)
Teachers Graduate Course - (also called The Teachers Graduate Class). This is the
culminating course in this study, which every student should have, whether he desires to
teach or not. Particular information on this course will be given later in this booklet,
as it is presented in a different way than are the earlier courses in this Plan.
For the first four courses of study, small classes are formed, whenever feasible, by a
teacher in the student's area. This "class" may consist of only one student, but
usually these classes are formed with up to six students in any one group. The classes are
kept small enough for the teacher to provide individual guidance to each student in the
class, and also to make it possible for each one to actively participate in the classwork.
Day or evening classes are available, according to various teachers' schedules.
Class sessions are held once a week, and are usually of 2 to 2 1/2 hours duration. A
"question and answer" method of teaching is used. Printed sets of questions,
with full correct answers to each question, for each of these courses, are used by all
teachers in their classwork with students, therefore, the instruction given to all
students, by any qualified teacher, is consistent with that given by all other teachers.
In an orderly system of study, in accordance with the Teaching Plan, at least one week is
given to covering each booklet in the Beginner's Course, and to each chapter of the
textbook in the more advanced courses. The student studies each lesson in advance, and at
class is prepared to give his best sense of the answer to the questions the teacher will
ask. The full and correct answer is then pinpointed by the teacher, and any additional
explanations that would be helpful to the student are also given. These include practical
instruction directly related to any type of problem the students in the class may be
endeavoring to resolve. Teachers will have additional sessions with any student who may
have a particularly difficult problem.
It is not always easy to see, for oneself, what manner of thinking one has been doing that
is the cause of various particular difficulties that are in experience. The teacher,
however, from a more objective view, can point this out to the student, and then teach him
how to change his thought, sense and feelings about such situations. As the student does
learn to think rightly, and act accordingly, his difficulty in experience is indeed
resolved.
The use of the same scientific Questions and Answers in each course provides uniform and
accurate teaching - free of any "personal opinions", or unproved theories. It
also assures that every student will receive the benefit of a great number of specific and
practical points which are included in these sets of Questions and Answers, as additional
instruction that is related to the correct answers found in the text.
The Questions and Answers for each course may be purchased by the student, at any time,
after he has satisfactorily completed his study and review of any particular course, as
verified by his teacher's signature on the order form provided for this purpose.
If a prospective student lives in an area where there are no qualified teachers of
Eschatology, a "Self-Taught Program" is available. This is not a
"correspondence course". The self-taught student is allowed to buy the set of
Questions and Answers used by the teachers, so that he can review his own study of each
lesson. An experienced qualified teacher will be recommended, with whom the self-taught
student can have some form of periodic contact for answers to specific questions, and
guidance in application. This program is not available to anyone who lives in areas where
there are qualified teachers.
Mr. Walter understood that, inherently, Life itself is organized, systematized
Intelligence, therefore, Life unfolds itself in an orderly way, or in a step by step
manner. Because Mr. Walter had proved this to be true, he wrote the texts to provide sound
step by step progress in gaining an understanding of Life, through the study of
Eschatology.
In his texts he gives very well-reasoned explanations of the natural goodness inherent in
the true nature of each individual being, and of the scientific principles, laws and
processes of mental causation. He includes instruction on how to reason rightly, and on
how to apply what is taught to resolve problems related to "health, wealth, success,
and happiness".
Students are taught the fundamental principles and the laws of mental causation, in the
first course of study. As the student learns to apply this basic teaching, he gains
benefit from the very start of his study. However, there is such a wide variety of
difficulties experienced from the usually accepted concepts of self and Life, that Mr.
Walter could not include specific instruction on all of these difficulties. Nevertheless,
the same fundamental principles are used in resolving any problem, and a qualified teacher
can specifically explain the right application of these fundamental principles that will
bring into experience particular goods that are desired.
Mr. Walter understood the value of this very specific teaching, in regard to application,
and he wrote his textbooks with the idea in mind that they would be studied under the
guidance of a teacher with an active Permit to Teach. In addition, the texts are
structured in such a way that as the student continues to review them after he has
completed the successive courses in his study and attended the Teachers Graduate Class, he
can unfold more and more of the actual understanding that is skillfully written into
the textbooks and supplemental works. Mr. Walter had gained a great depth of understanding
even before he developed his Plan or began to write the texts and other works through
which the student is taught. He knew what he would later bring out in each more advanced
course and kept this in mind as he wrote them. Because of this method of step by step
teaching, if the student will reason, and use the best sense he has, of what he has
already studied, he can learn how to resolve any difficulties in his experience at any
level in this study, when he perseveres in his effort.
This is why Mr. Walter provided a series of courses, so that the student could benefit
from each progressive step of the way to actual understanding. It is to assure that the
first four courses are thoroughly taught, that each one is immediately reviewed after once
completed. As all the essential points in each particular text have been covered in its
first study, the student gains a deeper sense of each of these throughout this thorough
review. Then through his own well-reasoned application of what he has been taught, he can
further prove to himself that he does have the right sense that results in greater good
coming into his daily life.
If this right practice is continued through each more advanced course in this scientific
study, the student's progress is sound and sure, and he is really ready to gain great
benefit from attending the culminating course in this Teaching Plan.
Currently the Teachers Graduate Course is held every two years, and is presented during
six consecutive days. For many years this Class has been held in mid August, the month
found to be most convenient to the students and teachers.
To be eligible to attend this Class, the student must have completed and reviewed all of
the four preceding courses. When he has done this satisfactorily, he is recommended for
this highest course by his own teacher, and must then pass a written examination, given by
the Director of Teaching. Once any student has qualified for and attended this Class, he
is invited to attend free reviews of it.
Mr. Walter did not publish the text used for the Teachers Graduate Course because its
depth of meaning must be unfolded by all students in a gradual, step by step way. This
culminating course in the Teaching Plan presents all that is needed for any student to
eventually gain a full and actual understanding of himself and of all Life.
The text for this course is slowly and meaningfully read by the teacher most qualified to
do this because of having a soundly proved actual understanding of the Science of Life.
This has been achieved by many years of study, teaching and healing, and successfully
conveying a great depth of understanding to many students, to as full a degree as their
own effort has made possible.
Those who attend this Class grasp and retain only as much of what is presented in its
teaching as each one is really prepared to do, because of what he has already proved from
his prior study. Nevertheless, whatever deeper insight he does gain is valuable to him in
his continued regular review of the texts used for the preceding courses, as it helps him
to unfold more of the depth of meaning that Mr. Walter wrote into those texts. Then as the
student or teacher practically applies this deeper degree of understanding, he is ready to
gain still more from his next review of the Teachers Graduate Course.
From this explanation it can be seen that Mr. Walter's purpose in his method of presenting
this course in this way, was to do all that he could to make it possible for each student
of Eschatology to steadily and soundly gain the fullness of the actual understanding of
Life, that is presented in Eschatology by this teaching system.
Mr. Walter advised that each student continue regular study with his teacher, in reviewing
the earlier texts, after he has attended the Teachers Graduate Course. He said it was also
wise for each teacher to study with one who is even further advanced in this progressive
unfoldment. In this way, each step of progress achieved is utilized in a wholly practical
way, with ever-increasing benefits in daily living.
Invitations to a free review of the Teachers Graduate Course continue to be sent to each
student who has had this Class, unless he does not attend three consecutive times that he
is invited. As of 1996, a number of the students and teachers have had as many as 15 or
more reviews of this Class, depending on how long they have been studying Eschatology.
Throughout the entire study, however, the student should realize that his progress in
understanding comes only through his own well-reasoned application, in daily thought, of
the scientific principles that he has been taught.
To identify the qualified teachers of Eschatology, Mr. Walter adopted a "permission
to teach" system. Each teacher who has been granted this is required to request its
renewal, annually. By the current date of this "Teacher's Permit", the student
(or prospective student) can know that the teacher he studies with is an active teacher,
who has maintained his own understanding and his qualifications to teach. Mr. Walter's
purpose in this was to do all he could to keep all teaching of Eschatology scientifically
accurate and thereby maintain its quality. The steadily increasing number of students and
teachers, through the years, has proved the wisdom of his Plan.
To be eligible to be a teacher of Eschatology, the student must have attended the Teachers
Graduate Course and at least one review of this class, and have also proved, by his own
right application of thought, that he has understood the fundamental principles of
individual mental causation. His written request for a Permit to Teach must be accompanied
by his teacher's letter of recommendation of his readiness to teach.
By one's own continued study, and by attending the free reviews of this highest course,
the student can continue to progress; and one who is a teacher can unfold more of the
depth of understanding of the Science of Life, so that he can be successful in giving
progressive guidance to his students.
William Walter set up a Trust Fund to assure the perpetuation of the teachings of
Eschatology. This Trust is administered by a long-established bank in Aurora, Illinois,
under the jurisdiction of the Court of Illinois. The Director of Teaching is appointed by
the Court, upon recommendation of the Trust Officer of the bank. That Director, upon
appointment, places on record, with the Trustee, the name of the teacher who is best
qualified to guide the teaching and study, scientifically, and will carry on this
responsibility, when the then-current Director relinquishes it.
This procedure of recommendation of subsequent Directors of Teaching was adopted to assure
that each appointed Director would be one who had proved sufficient depth of understanding
and wisdom to provide the necessary guidance in continuity, and to perpetuate the Science
of Eschatology in accord with Mr. Walter's method and quality of teaching.
The Director until 1981 was Mrs. Genevieve L. Rader, who taught the Teachers Graduate
Class from 1957 to 1979. Mrs. Rader began her study of Eschatology in 1921, and attended
the last two Teachers Graduate Classes that Mr. Walter conducted (1936 and 1939). Mr.
Walter recognized that she was as strongly dedicated to maintaining the quality and
scientific accuracy of his teaching, as he had always been. This was fully verified after
Mrs. Walter, who had carried on his work since 1941, asked Genevieve to accept the
responsibility for guidance of the field in 1962, and requested her appointment by the
Court of Illinois. Mrs. Walter had not only recognized Genevieve Rader's dedication, but
also that she had attained great depth of understanding and wisdom through her years of
study with one of Mr. Walter's own students, and by her active teaching since 1936.
Mrs. Rader gave excellent guidance to students and teachers throughout the world, and
provided many "teaching aids" to assist the teachers in further developing their
skill in their own work with students. At Mrs. Walter's request, Genevieve fulfilled Mr.
Walter's instructions that at an appropriate time, scientifically formulated Questions and
Answers should be prepared for each of the four courses in his Plan that precede the
Teachers Graduate Class.
In July 1981, Mrs. Rader relinquished the responsibility of Director of Teaching. Each
subsequent director has in turn contributed to maintaining the consistent and scientific
perpetuation of Mr. Walter's teaching. Prior to accepting this job when offered to them,
each Director has demonstrated their actual understanding of the Science of Life, as well
as their full understanding of the wisdom of Mr. Walter's Plan, and the purpose of his
method of teaching. While fulfilling the daily responsibilities as Director, they have
also continued to teach their own direct students, many of whom have been qualified
teachers. This job requires close and frequent contact with the numerous teachers
throughout "the field", and therefore the Director's recommendation of an
eventual successor is broadly based.
If a student's own teacher is not ready to start a new class for beginners, he is advised
to tell any interested friends that they write to "Eschatology" at its post
office address, and request the recommendation of a teacher. The Director of Teaching is
kept informed of any teacher's readiness to accept new students; therefore, a teacher who
is available to new students can usually be recommended without delay.
With that recommendation, the prospective student will be advised that it is wise to
contact that teacher as soon as possible. Some have waited too long, and when contact is
made, they have found that the new class has been filled, and the course has already been
started. However, should this occur, the prospective student can write for another
recommendation.
Some students enter the study with what doctors have classified as serious health
problems. It has long been known and fully proved in both Christian Science (first taught
in 1875), and in Eschatology, that true thoughts can be silently transmitted from one
mentality to another who has requested this help. Teachers therefore give this kind of
additional aid to any student who has a problem he is not yet prepared to handle. The
teacher directs well-reasoned right thoughts to the mentality of that student, and to the
degree of the student's receptivity, he gains a correspondingly beneficial result. Many
students who have come with various types of health problems have been healed by this
method, after only a little instruction in the study.
However, it is the genuine enlightenment that the student receives from oral teaching that
enables him to see what needs to be corrected in his own thought, by his own right use of
reasoned application and the change he makes in his thought and prior feelings. Only in
this way does the student know how to maintain his regained healthy mental state, and its
right effect, in experience. This process of healing by teaching not only corrects any
wrong condition in health, business, finances, employment and relationships, it also
enables the student to regain his natural true sense of being self-sufficient. This then
is the true mental healing.
The very basis of Mr. Walter's teaching method is a teacher-and-student process, in a
schoolroom manner. It is the teaching that develops the student's awareness of his own
self-sufficiency, and it is his proved application that increases his self-confidence. Mr.
Walter said that the Eschatologist soon realizes that every problem he confronts in daily
living is really an opportunity for him to learn how to more efficiently use his faculties
and abilities, so that he does make the necessary changes in his own thought and feeling
that do resolve that difficulty.
When a student is taught correctly - and if he is really teachable - then this scientific
teaching of Eschatology does solve any and all problems. The students do learn to
follow through in their efforts with sustained interest, and well-reasoned application.
This application should start right in the first course of study.
Fees for classes are generally paid on a weekly basis, and always directly to the teacher.
The cost of this classwork is quite reasonable - especially when compared to fees for
other types of study which cannot even approximate the benefit that can be gained from
this teaching. The fee for any "silent work" provided by the teacher, at the
request of the student, is worked out in proportion to how much of this may be necessary
in any particular instance.
These payments to the teachers are for their time and effort. The understanding they can
give is priceless, and cannot be paid for. However, these fair costs allow the student a
way to express his appreciation, and he finds that he himself is benefited by doing this.
On the other hand, the teachers know the value of generosity and willingly keep the fees
for their classes, or for any silent work, well within a moderate range.
For instance, in 1996, these fees are generally from $15.00 to $30.00 per class, depending
upon the course of the study being taught. They may be slightly higher if there is only
one in the class. For additional private sessions, most teachers ask from $20.00 to
perhaps $40.00. However, if such a session is exceptionally long, the student would no
doubt be willing to pay accordingly. The teachers are always considerate of any student's
ability to pay, and particularly so, until the student has learned how to increase his
income through improving the quality of all his thoughts, in a more throughout way. (All
fees are subject to change as general price levels rise.)
The only other cost to the student is what he pays for his books. He can buy supplemental
works when it is convenient for him to do so. As compared to textbooks used in colleges,
or even in any kind of adult education, the cost of the "Plain Talk Series" and
the "Common Sense Series" booklets is moderate, and the concepts presented in
these have a lasting value.
The prices of the advanced texts were purposely placed high by Mr. Walter, and his
original prices have only recently been raised in proper proportion to the rising costs of
everything in the latter part of the 20th century. Mr. Walter chose to price the advanced
texts as he did, to assure that the student would thoroughly study them, and really learn
to use what is taught in each text, and not simply read them without realizing their true
value. They prove to be invaluable to any sincere student.
As these texts cannot be purchased until the student has satisfactorily completed and
reviewed the preceding course, if he uses what is taught there, he will find he can buy
the next text, comfortably. He proves what he is taught by being able to do this. This
increases his later income, because he has learned the value of correcting any former
thought and sense of "lack".
After reviewing the referenced booklets about Eschatology, and by reading this booklet, it
should be evident that Eschatology is not a "philosophy", but is a way of Life
that is Life itself. It is not a "religion", which is largely only a faith that
gives some individuals sufficient comfort so that they can "endure" their
troubles, even though their faith has not resolved these. It is not a "mystical
teaching", but instead is wholly reasonable and practical in results. It is not a
"social" organization of any kind; but warm friendships and an appreciation of
others do develop in this study.
It is an exact Science, and when its principles are practically applied, it does resolve
all kinds of difficulties or troubles. As in any true science, its principles, laws,
functions and processes can become known, and then utilized with ever-greater benefit. As
the student progresses, he comes to realize that what he is taught is inherent in his own
nature, because he is life. He then not only realizes that this scientific
structure is within his own individual being, but also, that all the wonderfully good
quality that Life really is, is actually his own true nature. As he benefits from
"knowing the truth" within himself, because he has found the inner structure of
these principles of Life, he then further realizes that the structure, itself, is not a
"cold, technical thing", but is the real comfort and real love, inherent in
himself.
The student who honestly applies himself to this study never regrets any time, effort or
money he invests in his own progress in "knowing himself", and in gaining an
actual understanding of all that Life really is.
This booklet is given to all new students of Eschatology, if they have not previously
requested it. Others who have received it, while still considering if they would like to
study or not, may desire additional information, or one of the other booklets mentioned in
this explanation of Mr. Walter's Plan and method. Any additional requests for information
will be answered as quickly as possible.
Should the reader decide he is interested in starting this study, he should give his
preference for either day or evening classes, in his request for the name and address of a
teacher in his locality. The teacher recommended will be glad to arrange for a free
interview, and then answer any further questions the prospective student may have. This
interview also serves to show both the teacher and the prospective student whether or not
Eschatology is what that individual really desires to study, and if he has the ready
willingness to give it the necessary effort and sustained interest that is required to
benefit from it.
As explained in the "Supplement to Eschatology - What Is It?", Mr. Walter knew
that only those who were motivated by their own desire would really gain the full benefit
of this teaching. He therefore explained to his students that no one should ever be urged
to study Eschatology. Those who desire to study, however, are truly welcomed.
