HOW IS ESCHATOLOGY PROMULGATED? WE come now to the consideration of the method of promulgation of the science of Eschatology, and you will see that it is a method unlike that used by any of the many pretenders in the field of metaphysics today. It is a method purposely calculated to reach only the comparatively few who will really appreciate it for its true worth. These few are the real thinkers, the real students, the workers who will take it up and carry it on in the same way that it was taken up and carried on by our trail blazer, William W. Walter. It is not a money making scheme; if it were, you would have heard about it long ago. It is not advertised as a piece of merchandise would be. Such methods have never been found necessary to the growth of Eschatology. Without ballyhoo, without publicity, it has grown steadily since 1907 until today its students surround the globe. No direct attempt is made, however, to gather a huge number of followers. On the contrary, the most successful teachers are those who have taken pains to choose only those students who exhibit the proper spirit of respect for truth and a feeling of love for their fellow man. It has been the experience of these teachers that to keep the teaching out of the hands of those who would attempt to profane it, is to the best interests of all concerned. To make wrong use of the power of thought is more dangerous than to make wrong use of dynamite. By wrong use I mean, of course, deliberately attempting to gain some selfish end at the expense of some other individual. Such an act is like a boomerang, only considerably more certain to return. Another large class of undesirables which the present method of promulgation sidesteps is that class so detrimental to the progress of any science, be it chemistry, physics or any other science all the way up to Eschatology. I speak of the blind believers. These people are the shallow thinkers, willing to believe anything, unwilling to reason out anything to the point of understanding. These people, let me politely say, are not ready for Eschatology. They contribute nothing new and promptly misinterpret and misuse everything they take from a teaching. It is these blind, unreasoning believers who are most largely responsible for the hiding of the Christ Truth from the people for so many centuries. Believing everything, understanding nothing, they passed on to posterity mere unproved opinions and conflicting errors. For the present, I shall only say that the science is taught privately or in class instruction, by those who have prepared themselves through long training for this work. Naturally they charge a fair price for their efforts in teaching you, and you will be willing to pay this price. You will be willing to pay any price when you begin to glimpse the value of the teaching. Many who enter the science do so for the specific purpose of accomplishing some particular healing. This is as it should be, for the understanding of yourself and life gained here, when properly applied to your everyday problems, solves those problems whether they be problems of health, wealth, happiness or any other phase of living. In order to forestall disappointment and to save a portion of the time required for you to get on the same train of thought as your teacher, I would like to give you some idea of what to expect of him, or her, and incidentally, what not to expect. Let's start with the latter and first find out what not to expect. First of all, your teacher is not a magician. As was mentioned in the first chapter, to many people metaphysics and black magic, mystery and occultism are synonymous. This is decidedly wrong. Eschatology, the science of true metaphysics, is devoted entirely to the discovery and mastery of natural laws, special attention being paid to stripping away the veil of mystery which humanity has so long insisted upon throwing over the face of simple common sense truth. Secondly, you must not expect absolute perfection of your teacher, even though that is the very thing he is trying to teach you. You must remember, absolute perfection is the ultimate of Being and is a goal attainable by each individual, BUT only when he has corrected all of the errors in his thinking, his believing, his understanding. Judge your teacher by his ability to teach you to be healthy and happy and successful. Judge the science of Eschatology by what your reason tells you about it, and by what its application to your life does for you. It is only in this way that you can evaluate its true worth. Your teacher's object is to teach you to understand that portion of the whole Truth which he understands, and to do this so thoroughly that you will be enabled to stand on your own feet and progress for yourself after a reasonable period of study. He will not try to impress you with the idea that he knows all about this science. No one does. His role is that of advanced student, only a short distance further along the road than you. He is a student who has passed the first milestone of knowledge and the second milestone of humility and is now in the third phase of his preparatory work; namely, that phase in which love has, in an ever-increasing way, taken its rightful place in his consciousness. It is this love of his fellow man and this love of understanding for its own sake which has caused him to engage in the work of teaching others rather than to devote his time to the furtherance of his own individual interests. The importance of love (good feeling) in this work cannot be over-stressed for it is the vital element in the science of life. You have a right, then, to expect friendliness, understanding, interest, cordiality, honesty, frankness from your teacher rather than mere cold instruction in a list of facts. Do not be disappointed if he does not answer to your satisfaction every question you may ask. There are many things which are beyond your present ability to comprehend. To give you the answers to some of your first questionings would be like giving meat instead of milk to a twoweek old infant. The ability to digest the more mature food has not yet been manifested but what may seem to you an evasion is actually but a postponement to such future time as you may be ready and able to receive. Now a word on the subject of what your teacher may expect of you. First, last and always, an open, teachable mind. In Eschatology you will never be asked to accept anything on faith or to believe blindly because it's in the book. On the contrary you will be told that this is the wrong way to progress in the science. The most you will ever be asked to do along this line will be to reserve your judgment on some point which seems to you questionable, until such time as your thinking has been brought up to the level at which this point may be understood. Any true science is based on Reason, and Eschatology is a true science. Common sense proof is given every step of the way, and you are expected to understand that proof as you go along, even if it requires considerable repetition and patience. There is no better way to learn than to admit you don't know, and then to follow the explanation given. Go to your class in Eschatology as you used to go to school. Divide your work into three divisions; home study, class instruction, laboratory application. The first two need no explanation, but by laboratory application I mean let every minute of your daily life, every incident, every thought be the subject of mental experiment. Put what you learn in class and from home study into application constantly throughout each day and watch your results carefully. If they are not all you hoped for, discuss them in class and see where you may have misapplied your efforts. Your teacher wants you to gain understanding. He is teaching people, not a subject. His success as a teacher hinges upon your being satisfied with your progress as his student. Therefore, he wants you to learn; and he knows from his own experience that you can only learn by taking active part in the proceedings. Your teacher can only show the way; you must do the traveling. He can set the banquet before you; you yourself must partake, digest, assimilate. It was the same in your formal school days. Be honest with yourself and realize that you have got to work at this thing. Set aside a definite portion of each day for real study. It is worth every ounce of effort you put into it, for it is the most important thing you ever have undertaken or ever will undertake. |
